  • conflict, roles, money,
  • romance and sex, children, in-laws,
  • communication, forgiveness, mutual submission, respect and honor, faithfulness,
  • power games, dealing with setbacks, dreams and goals,

and always and throughout, thinking about marriage from the perspective of faith.

Each chapter is filled with practical advice, personal transparency, and biblical application that will help to make the transition from singleness to marriage more successful. The reader is invited to “listen in” to this fatherly counsel.

Reader’s comments:

This is a thoughtful little book written by a father with degrees in philosophy, law, & religion, to his daughter on the occasion of her wedding. It is clearly a labor of love and deeply personal, yet full of common sense advice and grounded in Christian values without sounding preachy. A winner for parents looking for the right words to say!

This book is a Dad’s wedding gift to his daughter, loving in intent and practical in content. Although the writer addresses his daughter, the guidance given in chats on various topics regarding married life applies to all couples. The wisdom imparted in it I can use to strengthen my 25-year marriage. Counseling his daughter from a Christian perspective, the author provides sound advice in a conversational tone. It’s a delight to “listen in” to what he tells her!

Into The Sunrise Of Enternity: Reflections on the Journey Home

C.S. Lewis asks a poignant question: “If we really think that home is elsewhere and that this life is a ‘wandering to find home,’ why should we not look forward to the arrival?” This life is prelude to our destiny in glory beyond. We will have a joyous eternity that beckons with expectant hope. The way we pass from life to death can be life’s fitting conclusion and a wonderful legacy to those we leave behind.

We will start with our journey’s destination—Longing for a Better Country. We have a heavenly destination, and that expectation needs to frame our earthly passage. Then we’ll proceed Along the Way, examining some issues as we make our pilgrimage home.  There are wonderful opportunities and serious concerns in this era of prolonged aging. We’ll conclude with our earthly exit Into His Presence. Though our exits may not be easy, our destination is glorious. We’ll reflect on bracing our souls in that expectation as we enter the final stage of our earthly passage.

A recommended read for anyone with a pulse. One’s own mortality can be an uncomfortable subject to many. We were created for both a purpose and an ultimate journey, and this book sheds some light on both.

I’m 63, both my parents are living, they are in their 80s, and remain in their own home. I have a brother who lives on the same property, and a sister a few miles down the road. I live about 45 minutes away, so I am not too far either. My father had a stroke a couple of years ago, he has recovered a great deal, but he will never be able to do what he used to do. This is a book I needed to read.

This is a thoughtful, beautiful and helpful book. It is well written and solidly biblical. We live in a culture that has sanitized the elderly and death. And we don’t want to think about it, but we will all have to face it someday.
